Daniel Casey is a passionate young violist returning to Megalong music festival for its second year. Daniel is in his second year of studies at ANAM in 2026, studying under Caroline Henbest. His musical journey began with a love for singing, performing as a chorister with the Young Voices of Melbourne and later the Australian Boys Choir. However, it wasn’t until 2016, while studying at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS), that Daniel discovered his true passion for the viola. Under the guidance of Lisa Grosman and Chris Cartlidge, he developed a deep love for the instrument and the collaborative nature of chamber music, which motivated him to pursue a professional music career.

Daniel then studied his Bachelor of Music at the University of Queensland under Patricia Pollett, where he won the 4MBS Musica Viva Sid Page Memorial Prize, Richard Pollett String Prize and Sleath String Prize. Additionally, Daniel held the position of Principal Viola for the University of Queensland’s Symphony Orchestra and Pulse Chamber Orchestra. He has performed with the Australian Youth Orchestra’s orchestral and chamber programs, Opera Queensland, Ensemble Q, and has participated in side-by-side projects with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia, and has recently passed his casual audition for Orchestra Victoria.
