Violist Jacqui Cronin has built a career as a chamber musician, educator and orchestral performer holding various leadership positions in prominent ensembles across Australia, including the Australian Chamber Orchestra; the Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras; Opera Australia Orchestra and Orchestra Victoria. Her most recent positions are as Guest Associate Principal Viola of the Opera Australia Orchestra and Guest Principal Viola of Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.

As an active chamber musician and member of the Sonus Piano Quartet, Jacqui is in demand as collaborator, performing regularly as a guest artist with groups like the Seraphim Trio and Omega Ensemble. She has performed at notable festivals and concert series, including the Southbank Series at Melbourne Recital Centre, the Craven Creek and Sydney Chamber Music Festivals, and at Sensory Concerts – an inclusive series designed for children and adults with sensory sensitivities.

A beloved educator and mentor for over 25 years, Jacqui has held teaching positions at several prominent schools in both Sydney and Melbourne, tutored at the Sydney Youth Orchestra and Melbourne Youth Music, while maintaining a private studio in Sydney teaching violin and viola.

Her viola training journey began with a Bachelor of Music with High Distinction from the Canberra School of Music where she studied with Vincent Edwards, continued on to a Master’s degree from the University of Melbourne studying under Katherine Brockman and Fiona Sargent, then progressed to more advanced training at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) on a full scholarship. She pursued further studies in Europe after receiving an Ian Potter Foundation grant.

Megalong Music Festival is delighted to welcome Jacqui as a guest and teaching artist to its 2026 program.
